I have the honor of informing you that Search for Common Ground would very much like to present the SantEgidio Community with a Common Ground Lifetime Achievement in Peacebuilding Award. This award normally goes to individuals, but given the extraordinary work of the SantEgidio Community and the role it played in several peace processes, we would like to recognize your organization as a whole. The award will be presented at a ceremony on March 18, 2004 at the Austrian Embassy in Washington D.C. One of my colleagues will be in touch with you in the next few days to provide you with more information.

The Common Ground Awards are presented annually to honor outstanding accomplishments in conflict resolution, negotiation and peacemaking.
Past winners include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former US President Jimmy Carter, Former US Secretary of State James Baker, ROK President Kim Dae Jung and DPRK Leader Kim Jong Il, the late Matre Alioune Blondin Beye, and former US Senator George Mitchell.

As you may know, Search for Common Ground is the largest NGO in the world solely dedicated to conflict prevention and resolution. We have ongoing field operations in Angola, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Liberia, Macedonia, the Middle East, Morocco, Sierra Leone, Ukraine, and the United States and between Iran and the US and between Greece and Turkey.

Please accept this expression of my highest regard.

With best wishes,
John Marks
President
