His
story
Mark
had been an active duty member of the U.S. Navy. He has been
suffering for many years of a serious form of bipolar disorder, a
mental illness that leads to heavy will and personality troubles.
After taking part to the Gulf War, in 1991, his illness got worse.
He was arrested in 1998 for having killed his wife and son during a
nervous attack. In spite of his evident state of mental insanity, he
was anyway sentenced to death. His execution is sadly set on July
22nd 2004.
The
appeal to save Mark
The
Community of Sant'Egidio invites everybody to share its appeal
aiming to spare Mark's life from the execution, sending the
following statement to the Governor of Virginia, by fax or web.
Urgent
appeal brought in by the Community of Sant'Egidio to save the life of Mark
Bailey, sentenced to death
Dear
Governor Warner
I
am writing to express my deep concern over a ruling that sentenced to death
Mr. Mark Bailey, even though he is a mentally retarded man.
I
urge you to intervene on his behalf to prevent this cruel and inhuman
punishment from being meted out against him.
I
implore you to ensure that this cruel and inhuman sentence is not carried
out.
Respectfully
Yours
