His
story
Henry
Earl Dunn, an afroamerican man, was arrested when he was 19 for the
abduction, robbery and slaying of 23 year old Nicholas West,
although he didn't shoot the victim. Besides, his conviction is
strongly controversial, as his appointed defense lawyer was utterly
ineffective. That's why he was later disbarred and removed from the
list of attorneys qualified to represent clients in criminal cases.
His subsequent appellate lawyers failed to file a timely Notice of
Appeal with the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals. Due to this
malpractice, 241st Circuit Judge Diane De Vasto set an execution
date, in spite of the fact that defendant had not exhausted all of
his appeals.
