Johnny
Joe Martinez, 29, was sentenced to death for a murder in 1993. His
trial was not fair. His lawyer was young, unreliable, ineffective
and first of all it was his first capital case and he had been
working on the case only 50 hours before the sentence to death. The
lawyer himself, after realizing he was not suited to that so
difficult a case, asked to be replaced.
At
present Johnny exhausted all the appeals to the Courts, even if he
really would need a new trial, where possibly he could have a life
sentence.
The appeal to save Johnny Joe Martinez
The Community of SantEgidio invites everyone to sign the appeal to
save the life of Johnny, pleading with the Governor of Texas and the
Board of Pardons and Parole so that his execution, which was
scheduled on next May 22nd, may get a stay and he can be
granted a new (and fair) trial, with a good and effective lawyer.
