 Efrain Perez

 Texas - USA

28 years old

Sentenced to death

19/03/04 U.S., Texas: cancelled the execution date of Efrain Perez and Raul Omar Villareal, waiting for U.S. Supreme Court decision on juvenile crimes.

01/03/05 - Efrain Perez, who was supported by an urgent appeal of the Community of Sant'Egidio, had his life spared after the late verdict on juveniles issued by the Supreme Court of United States

His story

Efrain, a young man of poor Mexican origins, was just 17 years old when he was accused of a crime he had been always denying. He was among a group of four boys -today all of them in death row- who killed a man during a robbery. Efrain had always been saying he did not shoot at all. In spite of that and even though he was under age at the time of the events, he saw his execution date set for June 23rd 2004.

The appeal to save Efrain

The Community of Sant'Egidio invites everybody to share its appeal aiming to spare Efrain's life from the execution, sending the following statement to the competent authorities of Texas by fax or e-mail.
