His
story
Bobby, 27 years old, is a white man. He
was sentenced to death in 1998 for a killing committed one year
earlier, according to an only one and ambiguous testimony released
by one friend of his. At the opening of the proceedings against him,
Bobby was subjected to a heavy medication for depression, so he was
at that moment unable to stand trial. Nevertheless, the proceedings
went on the same, even because of his inexperienced lawyers who
failed to raise a claim early enough for delaying it.
The
appeal to save Bobby
The
Community of Sant'Egidio invites everybody to share its appeal
aiming to spare Bobby's life from the execution, sending the
following statement to the Governor of Virginia by fax or e-mail.
URGENT
APPEAL BROUGHT IN BY THE COMMUNITY OF SANT'EGIDIO TO SAVE THE LIFE OF BOBBY
WAYNE SWISHER, SENTENCED TO DEATH
Your
Excellency
We
are writing to express our deep concern over a ruling that sentenced to
death Mr. Bobby Wayne Swisher, even though an only one and ambiguous
testimony and a trial tainted by an inadequate lawyer appointed by the
court, as well as by the defendants inability to stand trial.
We
urge you to intervene on his behalf to prevent this cruel and inhuman
punishment from being meted out against him.
We
implore you to ensure that this cruel and inhuman sentence is not carried
out.
Respectfully
yours
