Write to a person
sentenced to death.
The first step to grant the vital
rights to men and women on death row is breaking the isolation.
Nothing is useless, all the efforts are precious. Therefore, the
website of the Community of Sant�Egidio has opened a page on the
correspondence with those sentenced to death. Through this
means, we have gotten in contact by letter with 1000 people
sentenced to death in the United States, Russia, Cameroon,
Zambia, and the Caribbean with the
same number of people from 55 countries in the world. Receiving
a letter is pleasant for everybody, and most of the time, for
those sentenced to death, letters constitute the only contact
with the outside world. You can help writing and telling
us in which languages you can and/or you would like to write.
We'll answer you as soon as possible and send you the name and
the profile of a prisoner who would like to get in touch with a
pen-friend.
Support the
International Fund for the legal defense of those sentenced to
death.
Other initiatives are precious to
break the isolation of those sentenced to death. A way of
supporting can be to keep a constant contact, to visit them and,
sometimes, to undertake their legal defense. Municipalities and
private individuals can support economically the International
Fund for the legal defense of those sentenced to death, already
set up by the Community of Sant�Egidio. It is a necessary and
indispensable instrument to reduce the number of innocents
executed and condemned without a real chance of defense. You can
help by collecting economical contributions for legal defense.

with a relevant growth also in the retentionist countries. You

favor of people condemned to death, that evolve into specific
appeals to be subscribed and sent to political leaders and
