Pope: 10,000 people in Sant'Egidio Community parade

(AGI) - Vatican city, Jan.1 - More than 10,000 people took part to the rally "Peace in every land", organised this morning in Rome by the Sant'Egidio community. The parade started off from Piazza della Chiesa Nuova and will reach St.Peter's square, to hear the pope's Angelus. The people will carry signs bearing pro-peace slogans, and the names of the 28 world areas suffering war crises, from Uganda to Afghanistan. Similar events have been promoted by the Sant' Egidio community in 151 cities of 37 countries, where the community is present. "There still isn't a war capable of crushing all the others" said Mario Marazziti, the community spokesman, reasserting that only international law is a solution to problems, as the pope said. (AGI)
