A meeting marked by great joy was held Thursday, May 6, in the large house of the Community of Sant'Egidio in Abidjan.
During his visit to Côte d'Ivoire, Andrea Riccardi spoke at length with a hundred children and street children, that have been accompanied and supported by the Ivorian Community for years. Their testimonies, that tell stories marked by extreme difficulties, all say with different expressions and examples, the same thing: "this is now my family."
Distribution of food, street canteens, curing diseases, birth registration, help and support with finding work, but also a public campaign against lynching - of which street children are often victims - are the many ways in which the Community of Sant'Egidio has become over the years close to their lives, rebuilding the fabric of a long lost family.
