Representatives of the National Transition Commitee (interim parliament) and the main political parties signed an agreement to build a democratic future for the country and put an end to a period of uncertainty and violence.

22 political representatives from Guniea gathered at the Community of Sant'Egidio in Rome, during a week of intensive work, to discuss the transition and the future of their country and to prepare for the next elections.

Among them, the Vice President of the NTC, the director of political affairs of the NTC and the president of the Commission for reconciliation.

Guinea has been struggling to exit the current situation following the coup of December 2008. After a year of military rule and a long period of political uncertainty, with clashes and casualties, the political and social forces, united in the NTC, sign an agreement laying the foundations for a peaceful transition and the return to democratic life in the country.

The agreement provides for power sharing institutions, parliament, constitution of a government of broad alliances, the creation of a national council of reconciliation. The Parties undertake to maintain and promote a peaceful climate and refuse every recourse to ethnic hatred, violence and propaganda which would create tension. The parties also agree to ensure fair and transparent elections and to accept their results. They have also planned the restructuring of the armed forces, compensation for victims of violations, a framework for permanent dialogue and consultation.
