The Grand Mufti of Egypt, Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam, is expected in Antwerp (Belgium), where he will participate at the International Meeting, organised by the Community of Sant’Egidio, Peace is the Future, Religion and Cultures in Dialogue 100 Years after World War I, that takes place from September 7th until 9th.
After the brutal massacre of thousands of innocent citizens in Northern Iraq the Grand Mufti recently declared that “IS endangers Islam”. These terrorists are responsible for their crimes and should be brought to justice, he added.
The Grand Mufti, in charge since February 2013, and associated to the al-Ahzar University, declared: “It is an obvious error to consider a terroristic organisation, as IS clearly is, as an Islamic State, because it violates all Islamic values, the most elevated Islamic laws as well as human rights.”
“Extremist who have blood on their hands endanger Islam and distort its image. They spilled blood and spread corruption all over the world. They weaken states and enable others to destroy us and to interfere with our interests under the guise of fighting terrorism.”
In 2012 Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam was elected into the Ulema Council, the second religious authority of the country.
