HUNTSVILLE,
Texas - A parolee who took a man from his home and fatally
shot him during a robbery attempt was executed by injection
Thursday. In Oklahoma, a man was executed for killing his
ex-girlfriend's adopted mother. Alvin Goodwin, 37, was the second
inmate executed this year in Texas, by far the most active death
penalty state.
Goodwin
said goodbye in Gaelic and closed by saying ``all right, warden.''
He was pronounced dead seven minutes after the lethal drugs were
injected. Goodwin, a former carpenter and press operator who had
been on parole for burglary at the time of the killing, was
convicted of breaking into the Conroe home of tool company worker
Douglas Tillerson on Nov. 30, 1986, to steal his $600 Christmas
bonus. When Tillerson told Goodwin and an accomplice, Billy Aitkens
Jr., he didn't have the money, they took a video cassette recorder
and some tapes and drove him to some woods, prosecutors said.
Aitkens tried to shoot Tillerson, but his gun misfired and Goodwin
fired the deadly shots, prosecutors said. Aitkens is serving a life
