Chief hails death sentence for drug traffickers
In
light of the increasing rate of drug abuse cases nationwide, National
Police Chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar expressed support on Friday for the
imposition of the death sentence on traffickers.
"It's
proper to impose a severe punishment on drug traffickers -- the maximum
should be the death sentence. And I'm glad that our judges have started to
find the courage to impose the death sentence on them," Da'i said as
quoted by Antara afterinstalling Comr. Gen. Nurfaizi as the new Chairman of
the National Narcotics Coordination Agency (BKNN) here.
Da'i
expressed the hope that the Agency would have the operational authority to
immediately deploy police units, such as detectives corps, to handle drug
cases.
