MALAYSIA: Drug trafficker gets death

A 25-year-old man was sentenced to death for trafficking 1,364.6gm of cannabis along the North-South Expressway 2 years ago. High Court Judge Hashim Yusoff made the ruling yesterday at the end of the trial of Haszaidi Hassan from Rantau Panjang, Kelantan.

Justice Hashim found that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt in the case.

Haszaidi committed the offence on Oct 22, 1999, at 4.20pm at the 259.4km stretch of the North-South Expressway, near the Rasah toll here.

He was charged under Section 39(B)(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act, 1952, which carries the death sentence.

DPP Suhaimi Ibrahim prosecuted while Rusli Zain, who appeared for Haszaidi, said he would be appealing against the decision.
