USA: Almost 1/2 of foreigners on death row in U.S. are Mexican 44 % of all foreigners sentenced to death in the United States are Mexican, officials said Monday. The Foreign Relations Secretariat is assisting 54 Mexican nationals on death row in the United States, as well as another 138 Mexicans who could face death sentences. Since capital punishment was reinstated in the United States in 1976, Mexican authorities have managed to prevent the execution of 3 of their countrymen. Mexico created a program in 2000 that offers assistance to Mexicans sentenced to death, the only such service on a worldwide level.
