25 dic 2002 Yemen - Two convicted murderers, including a military officer, have been executed by firing squad, the Yemeni public prosecutor said in a statement Wednesday. Maj. Saeed al-Areef was sentenced to death in October after being found guilty of murdering Capt. Mutahar Qasem, according to the statement obtained by The Associated Press. He was executed Tuesday at a military camp in the capital San`a. Another man, Yehya al-Sadiq, was executed Tuesday in a public square in the Mahweet province, some 115 kilometers (70 miles) north of San`a, said the statement. Al-Sadeq was found guilty of killing Ali al-Sabi, the statement said, without elaboration. Yemen imposes the death penalty for rape and murder. |
