USA, DUE ESECUZIONI IN OKLAHOMA E GEORGIA

WASHINGTON, 26 MAR - Due esecuzioni, a tarda sera negli Stati   Uniti: un uomo, John Michael Hooker, 49 anni, e' stato messo a morte con un'iniezione letale in Oklahoma, dopo essere stato condannato a morte per avere ucciso la fidanzata e la di lei madre 15 anni or sono. Hooker e' la 59/a persona giustiziata in Oklahoma da quando le esecuzioni sono ricominciate, nel 1990, la quarta quest'anno.

In Georgia, un altro uomo, di 57 anni, Larry Moon, e' stato anch'egli messo a morte con una inezione letale, per avere ucciso una donna di 34 anni, nel 1984.

Prima di essere ucciso, Moon ha dichiarato, come aveva gia' ripetutamente fatto in passato, di essere innocente, attribuendo l'omicidio a un suo amico morto in un incidente di moto nel 1988.

Moon e' la 32/a persona giustiziata in Georgia da quando la pena di morte e' stata reintrodotta, nel 1976.

McALESTER, Oklahoma _ A man convicted of first-degree murder for   stabbing his girlfriend and her mother in 1988 was executed by injection. 

John Michael Hooker, 49, was put to death Tuesday at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary after the U.S. Supreme Court denied his final appeal. He smiled at witnesses as the death chamber's curtains were drawn.

Also Tuesday, a Georgia inmate was executed by injection for the robbery and murder of a man at a convenience store in 1984.

Larry Eugene Moon, 57, was put to death at the state prison in Jackson, south of Atlanta. He always maintained he had been framed by a friend, and insisted in his final statement.
