Murderers
of Chinese diplomat executed in Xinjiang
The
2 accused murderers of a Chinese diplomat in Kyrgyzstan and his driver
have been executed in Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous
Region.
On
June 29, 2002, at 8:00 p.m., Rahmutulla Islayil and Arken Yakuf, both
natives of Urumqi city, stopped the car of Wang Jianping, a 1st-grade
secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, and shot dead Wang and
his driver in the street of Bishkek, the Kyrgyzstan capital.
The
killers fled the scene, but they were later caught by Kyrgyzstani
police. On July 4, 2002, the 2 were extradited to China, and on
October 31, they were officially arrested.
On
Jan. 12 this year, the Intermediate People's Court of Urumqi sentenced
them to death and they appealed to the Autonomous Regional Higher
People's Court, which rejected their appeal and supported the 1st
sentence.
On
March 25, the higher court issued the order of the executions.
