Murderers of Chinese diplomat executed in Xinjiang

The 2 accused murderers of a Chinese diplomat in Kyrgyzstan and his driver have been executed in Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

On June 29, 2002, at 8:00 p.m., Rahmutulla Islayil and Arken Yakuf, both natives of Urumqi city, stopped the car of Wang Jianping, a 1st-grade secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, and shot dead Wang and his driver in the street of Bishkek, the Kyrgyzstan capital.

The killers fled the scene, but they were later caught by Kyrgyzstani police. On July 4, 2002, the 2 were extradited to China, and on October 31, they were officially arrested.

On Jan. 12 this year, the Intermediate People's Court of Urumqi sentenced them to death and they appealed to the Autonomous Regional Higher People's Court, which rejected their appeal and supported the 1st sentence.

On March 25, the higher court issued the order of the executions.
