Tajikistan
to announce moratorium on capital punishment
Tajikistan
will impose a moratorium on capital punishment in the nearest
future, president Emomali Rakhmonov declared in his speech to the
national parliament on Friday.
The
president said in his annual message to parliament, "I have
issued an instruction to set up a working group that will see to it
that an act of legislation be promulgated for this purpose."
The
criminal code of Tajikistan contains 5 articles envisaging death
penalty for murder, rape, terrorism, genocide and biocide.
