Hi
Pakistan
6
juvenile prisoners face death penalty in Sindh.
Secretary
General, Justice and Rights Commission of Pakistan (JRCP), Deva Nand Balmiki
has said appeals of juvenile prisoners against death sentences are pending
before various benches of the Sindh High Court at Larkana, Hyderabad and
Sukkur.
In
a press statement issued here on Friday, Balmiki said recently a team of JRCP
met 6 juvenile prisoners, who were sentenced to death in different heinous
crimes by the Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATCs) and sessions courts, in the
condemned prisoners cell of central jail, Sukkur.
He
said that capital punishment awarded to juveniles was the violation of the
state law. He said that human rights organisations must raise their voice so
that the minor delinquents could be survived and were not hanged-up.
Balmiki
said that it was revealed to the JRCP team by jail officials that all the 6
were juveniles at the time of committing crime.
He
appealed to the government to convert their death sentences into life
imprisonment in the interest of humanity. The JRCP secretary general said that
immediate steps should be taken up to ensure implementation of Juvenile
Justice System Ordinance-2000. He also released the names of 6 juvenile
prisoners confined in central jail, Sukkur, including, Abdullah Jagirani, Khan
Muhammad Bhutto, Anwar Ali Shaikh, Irshad Mangi, Tauqeer Zardari and Imdad
Zardari.
