Iringa is in the south of Tanzania, about 500 km from Dar Es Salaam. The impact of HIV/AIDS here is very strong. And here is where the DREAM program for the treatment of HIV/AIDS starts in Tanzania. Clinical and laboratory activities for people with AIDS at Iringa have begun the same time as the visit of the DREAM experts took place. Activities are carried out according to the DREAM methodology in the "Allamano" centre, run by the
Consolata
Sisters.
A long and careful preparation preceded the program start-up. The sisters of the Consalata and the Community of SantEgidio have worked together for more than a year in order to begin providing the
therapy. The first operators of the centre took part in the training course at Maputo during summer 2003. This year, together with other operators, they completed their formation taking part in the
IV Panafrican
Training Course.
The centre was equipped and furnished according to the indications of the DREAM
experts.![](../../../../img/aids/Iringa_20041113_1.jpg) It was all set and the arrival of the first supplies of antiretroviral therapy enabled activities to begin.
