The spreading of the HIV/AIDS pandemic is decimating the population, it has lowered life expectancy by more than ten years, emptied fields and schools, generating a steady progression in poverty.
The Community of SantEgidio has started the antiretroviral therapy some time ago. At present about 600patients are on treatment, but the program is expanding quickly.
The realization of the centre at Blantyre will enable to further increase activities. The centre will open in July 2005.
