 Henry Lee Hunt

(USA - North Carolina) - 58 years old

Sentenced to death - Execution set to September, 12th 2003

23/01/03 - Court stayed the execution - News

28/08/03 - Henry Lee Hunt execution date set for Sept. 12

12/09/03 -  Henry Lee Hunt has been executed

His story

Henry is on death row since 1985, convicted of two murders. He has always stubbornly told innocent. He passed two lie detector tests which confirmed he did not take part to that crime. Henry was subjected to an unfair trial. The witness who charged him was submitted to strong pressure from law enforcement authorities, while Henry's lawyers appointed by the court revealed inexperienced: they did not even know evidences that could absolve him. His execution is sadly set to September, 12th 2003. Anyone who is interested may surely contact the links below this appeal.

The appeal to save Henry

The Community of Sant'Egidio, acting in concert with the University of Rome "La Sapienza", invites everybody to share its appeal aiming to spare Henry's life from the execution, sending the following statement to the Governor of North Carolina, as it occurred in the past, by fax or e-mail.

URGENT APPEAL BROUGHT IN BY THE COMMUNITY OF SANT'EGIDIO TO SAVE THE LIFE OF HENRY LEE HUNT, SENTENCED TO DEATH

Your Excellency

We are writing to express our deep concern over a ruling that sentenced to death Mr.Henry Lee Hunt , even though he was convicted by doubtful proofs brought in by the prosecutors and a trial tainted by an inadequate lawyer appointed by the court.

We urge you to intervene on his behalf to prevent this cruel and inhuman punishment from being meted out against him. We implore you to ensure that this cruel and inhuman sentence is not carried out.

 Respectfully Yours
