His
story
 Granville
is on Livingston's death row since 1990, after a murder he committed
to defend himself from an assault. His only accuser is a pathologist
already convicted in 1992 for false testimony in several criminal
cases, who denied Granville acted for self-defence. Just due to his
bad reputation, he cannot be considered a liable person.
Nevertheless, his deposition was enough to sentence Granville to
death, even because his state appointed lawyers failed to raise in
court the ambiguous penal past of the witness. Unfortunately the
date of Granville's execution was recently set for January 30th
2003. All hopes are now resting on a new and skilful attorney, who
was taken on thanks to an international solidarity fund.

The
Community of Sant'Egidio invites everybody to share its appeal
aiming to spare Granville's life from the execution, sending the
following statement to the competent authorities of Texas, as it
occurred in the past, by fax or e-mail.

APPEAL BROUGHT OUT BY THE COMMUNITY OF SANT�EGIDIO TO SAVE THE LIFE OF
GRANVILLE RIDDLE, SENTENCED TO DEATH
Your
Excellencies We are writing to express our deep concern over a ruling that
sentenced to death Mr.Granville Riddle, even though after an unfair trial,
tainted by an inadequate state appointed lawyer. We urge you to intervene on
his behalf to prevent this cruel and inhuman punishment from being meted out
against him. We implore you to ensure that this cruel and inhuman sentence
is not carried out.
