IRAN: AQUITTED THE DEATH SENTENCE FOR THE YOUNG GIRL NAZANIN
| The Community of Sant�Egidio welcomes with satisfaction the news of the annulment of the death sentence for the young girl Nazanin, whose alleged crime was committed only to escape death and therefore as a legitimate defence. Numerous urgent calls had been sent and the decision of the Iranian judicial authorities comes across as wise and opportune. The Community of Sant�Egidio hopes for the strengthening of a process able to inaugurate in Iran a higher and higher level of justice and capable to show clemency and rehabilitation, in full respect of life and human dignity. The Community of Sant�Egidio wishes, in this occasion too, to reach out to a moratoria of all the capital punishments on the way to the final abolition. |
