Yemen  - Two convicted murderers, including a military   officer, have been executed by firing squad, the Yemeni public prosecutor   said in a statement Wednesday.

Maj. Saeed al-Areef was sentenced to death in October after being found   guilty of murdering Capt. Mutahar Qasem, according to the statement obtained by The Associated Press. He was executed Tuesday at a military camp in the capital San`a.

Another man, Yehya al-Sadiq, was executed Tuesday in a public square in the Mahweet province, some 115 kilometers (70 miles) north of San`a, said the statement. Al-Sadeq was found guilty of killing Ali al-Sabi, the statement said, without elaboration.

Yemen imposes the death penalty for rape and murder.
