Seijiro
Yamano has been incarcerated in Osaka Detention Center since 1982.
Convicted for two cases of robbery and murder, and the police making
these two accidents as premeditated crimes, his death sentence has
been definitely established in 1996.
Mr.
Yamano claims that there were physical and psychological tortures
during the interrogations by the policemen, forcing him to confess
as the scenario which they had prepared.
Seijiro
Yamano denies any accusation on his behalf and he urges to be
submitted to a new, fair trial. In the meantime, he, his family and
his friends fear that his execution could be impending, being he
among the first names in the list of the 56 Japanese death row
inmates.
In
March 2003, the Supreme Court rejected his first appeal asking for a
new judgment. The man would hold one chance more: a second appeal to
call for the opening of a new trial.
Seijiro
Yamano is running serious risks, because he is defending himself
alone, as his attorney has to support other ten files of similar
cases, and so he cannot work wholly for him.
The
appeal to save Seijiro Yamano

Community of Sant’Egidio invites everyone to support the appeal to

Your
Excellency
We
are writing to express our deep concern over a ruling by the Supreme Court
which sentenced to death Mr. Seijiro Yamano for robbery and murder, crimes
the defendant says he never committed.
We
urge you to not sign the order for his execution, also considering that Mr.
Yamano has submitted an appeal for retrial to the Supreme Court.
We
implore you to ensure that this cruel and inhuman sentence is not carried
out.
