Letter of the Bishop of Khartoum

To the Community of Sant'Egidio

October 25, 2001

Subject: Thanks for the help granted

Sisters and Brothers,

On my arrival to Khartoum I was surprised and overjoyed to meet Dr. Fabio, Fr. Angelo and Ms. Marcellina here. Now at their departure, I wish to send you this note through them.

My whole Archdiocese is extremely grateful for the swift action your Community has taken to respond to our request for funds to enable us to provide emergency food and shelter for the people who were affected by the floods of August. Your generosity of granting US. $ 50,000.-- for this purpose and in so short a time, has captured our admiration and appreciation.

Thanks so much for the great act of generosity and solidarity with our suffering people. I echo the thanks of the people who will directly benefit from this help, and for my entire diocese for your quick action without too much ado.

May God bless your efforts and particularly your closeness to your brothers and sisters in need.
Yours Sincerely,

+ GABRIEL ZUBEIR WAKO
Archbishop of Khartoum
