The Community of Sant'Egidio remembers with gratitude and affection Cardinal Józef Glemp and joins the prayer and sorrow of the Church of Poland. A Mass in memory will be presided over by Mgr. Vincenzo Paglia, Saturday, January 26, at 20.00 in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, where Cardinal Glemp had been Titular Bishop.
Good and brave shepherd, the Primate Glemp has gone through the difficult history of the twentieth century as a witness for peace. In 1989 he wanted that the meeting in the spirit of Assisi should take place in Warsaw to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. As time went by and despite the aggravation of the disease, Cardinal Glemp has never failed to lend his support and sympathy to the initiatives of the Community of Sant'Egidio.
