The March "Peace in all lands" crossed the centre of Rome this morning. At the beginning of the march (at Castel Sant'Angelo) President of the Community of Sant'Egidio Marco Impagliazzo remembered that "war is the mother of all poverties" and that "The First World War broke out in Europe 100 years ago: an anniversary that makes us think about what our continent is". "The Pope - he concluded - told us that peace and fraternity are a common destiny and so let us exchange an embrace of peace and say: ‘War never again!’". Many posters brought to St. Peter's Square proclaimed: "Peace in Syria " and "War is the mother of all poverties”.
At the end of the Angelus, Pope Francis greeted “with gratitude the many initiatives of prayer and commitment to peace taking place in every part of the world on the occasion of the World Day of Peace. I remember, in particular, the National March that took place in Campobasso last night, organised by CEI, Caritas and Pax Christi". «I greet – he continued looking at the square crowded with over 100 thousand faithful - the participants in the demostration “Peace in all lands”» promoted in Rome and in many countries by the Community of Sant'Egidio: you are so many!»
