ROME – From 9th to 11th July 2014, a delegation of the Senegalese Government, under the mandate of H.E. President Macky Sall, and a delegation of the MFDC, under the mandate of its leader Salif Sadio, met in Sant’Egidio, in Rome, in the framework of the negotiations for Peace in Casamance.
The two delegations discussed the point of the agenda adopted on 3rd November 2013, concerning “Humanitarian Issues”. The constructive atmosphere surrounding the talks was generated by the implementation of the “Measures of Mutual Trust” approved during the previous round of negotiations.
The parties agreed on the need to collaborate for a shared action in order to comfort the sufferance of the people, victim of the conflict in Casamance.
The parties approved a document concerning humanitarian issues.
The delegations appreciated the atmosphere and frankness that prevailed during the talks in these days, organised by the Community of Sant’Egidio, which according to its tradition, neglected no effort for the successful development of the negotiations.
The parties agreed on the need to continue the talks in Rome, with the mediation of the Community of Sant’Egidio, according to the procedures and schedule established jointly by the delegations.
The Community of Sant’Egidio expresses its satisfaction for this further important step ahead towards a durable and fair solution to the conflict and looks forward to the continuation of the talks.
