BRUSSEL (Kerknet/SIR) – Marco Impagliazzo, voorzitter van de Sint-Egidiusgemeenschap, zegt te hopen dat de interreligieuze ontmoeting, die van 15 tot 18 november in de Cypriotische hoofdstad Nicosia plaats heeft, een impuls kan geven aan het Cypriotische vredesproces, dat tot stilstand is gekomen. “Cyprus is nog het enige Europese land dat militair bezet is en dat door een muur gescheiden is. Sant'Egidio spoort aan tot de restauratie van de christelijke gebedsplaatsen in het Turkse deel en van de islamitische gebedsplaatsen in het Grieks-Cypriotische deel van het eiland. “Wij proberen ook een workshop te organiseren in het deel dat onder Turkse controle staat. Tijdens de slotviering willen wij een symbolisch gebaar van verzoening stellen. Dit is geen godsdienstig, maar een politiek conflict.”
