The
minors who are in the faraway adoption program in Ukraine are
ex-street children who are now guests of a family-home in Kiev. The
home, the 'Father's House', is run by a young doctor, member of a
protestant church. At present about thirty children live there.
These children had been abandoned or had fled from their families,
they had been living underground where they had found some
protection from the cold winters of Kiev. The volunteers of the 'Father's
House' met these children when they were going to bring them food
and clothes. After some months, they overcame their suspicion of
adults, and succeeded in bringing the children to live in the house.
The 'Father's House' allowed them to go back to school. The older
ones are helped in finding a job and the younger are given help in
renewing some families ties. The house does not receive state
funding. International foster care guarantees health care and a
chance to study to these ex-street kids. |
