A delegation of the Community of Sant'Egidio led by Marco Impagliazzo yesterday met representatives of the US administration on issues of peace in Africa, migration and the protection of minorities in the Middle East. The meetings were organised by the Peace Office of the Community in Washington, which for three years has ensured continuity to the relations with the US administration.

With Stephen Pomper, Special Assistant to the President Obama for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights (pictured right) were addressed in particular the issues of the current crisis in Burundi, where the Sant'Egidio has been working for some time, and the situation of minorities in Syria. There were also meetings with USAID (in the picture below), with which they addressed the issue of immigration and how to facilitate the travel of refugees from war-torn countries to Europe, the State Department, with the heads of the Office of Religions and Global Affairs , and with the leader of the office for the protection of religious minorities. Particular appreciation was expressed by the US administration for the peace actions in Burundi and for the programme of support for refugees through the initiative of the humanitarian corridors.
