In the days immediately following the violent earthquake that hit Sumatra and the town of Padang, the Communities of Sant' Egidio of the Indonesia have alerted to raise funds and bring help to the victims of the earthquake; particularly to the poorest persons of whom the Community has been taking care for years: the elderly, the children and the boys of the Schools of Peace, the children in long distance adoption.
Although the houses suffered serious damage, all of the children in international foster care and their families are in good health.
The most urgent need is however the supply of food, that is lacking or is very expensive, also because of the interruption of the lines of communication. For this, the Community has distributed packages of food above all in the zones at the periphery of the town, where other help had not arrived. About 650 families could be supported, for a total of 3,500 persons and the distributions continues everyday.
