The heavy rains of last week (and the lack of a sewerage system), caused flooding in a large part of Jakarta. For a few days every activity has stopped, as you can see from the photos, taken in the very center of the city.
Now, in the central districts, the water has receded, while the poorest areas are still flooded - often too close to water courses, or in general located in lower sites.
These days, the Community of Sant'Egidio is bringing aid (food, blankets, drinking water) in the areas where the damage was heavier, thus aggravating the condition of families already very poor.
We started in Sunter, North east of the city, home to the School of peace of the Community of Sant'Egidio, and continue all week at Pasar Pagi and other areas particularly affected by the flood.
