the Enterprise "Cities for Life - Cities Against the
Death Penalty" Participate in the First World Day Against
the Death Penalty. Many cities all over the world will light
in a special manner a monument-symbol in order to say:
"Stop the Death Penalty"
The
Community of Sant'Egidio, in accordance with Amnesty
International, Ensemble contre la Peine de Mort, National
Coalition to abolish the Death Penalty, and other associate
members of the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty, has
launched the First World Day Against the Death Penalty, on
November 30th 2002 (that's the anniversary of the first
abolition in a State of Europe, and maybe in the world (Tuscany,
1786).
This
is a crucial step to involve public opinion all over the world
in a deeper commitment and to have more consideration in the
search for a higher level of respect of human rights. Many
international and local initatives are already planned on this
day and the first will be "Cities for Life - Cities
Against the Death Penalty". Already numerous City
Councils from all over the world have accepted our invitation
and will light up a monument in their city in a special way
and then they will go on with other initiatives.
