A response to the call of Pope Francis and the letter that the Bishops' Conference has recently sent to Pope Francis, came promptly from the Community of Sant'Egidio in Hungary that is offering temporary accommodation to a group of refugees crossing Budapest, where the number of refugees is growing.
The refugees, from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, tired and exhausted, were very grateful for the hospitality and the modest lodging for one night before continuing the journey.
They were visibly comforted by seeing that they enjoyed the protection of a church and a Christian community. One of them, Abdal, from Mosul saw a statue of the Virgin Mary and felt deeply moved. Partly because it reminded him of similar images in churches but also because, as a Muslim, he worships the Mother of Jesus, mentioned several times in the Koran as the Chosen One of God."
