On December 9th, a delegation of the Community of Sant'Egidio, led by its President, prof. Marco Impagliazzo, met the President of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba and the Foreign Minister of the Government of Gabon.
After having described the past relations between the African country and the Community, with special enphasis on the collaboration on the abolishion of the death penalty, new areas of cooperation were explored, including that of interreligious and ecumenical dialogue, the relationship between Europe and Africa and the initiatives for peace.
The president expressed appreciation for the commitment of Sant'Egidio in Africa, especially in respect to yhe field of aid to the poorest of coexistence and of dialogue. |
