The formation course entitled "Old Age is a Gift" was attended by teenagers coming from two cities such as Quezon City and Cainta.
It was the first time of reflection on the elderly to take place in Tayuman, Manila. The day started with a morning visit in the elderly house in the atmosphere of joy and deep friendship that showed the beauty and excitement of the elderly to see new faces and meet new and young friends. A happy day spent with chatting, singing and serving them.
After a good lunch, the youth had the course in understanding the life of old people. They learned to appreciate more about life of the old people as they shared on the life and changes of elderly and their condition and poverty which are sometimes left behind and abandoned in institutions. It was a learning filled day and the youth had able to share their encounter and experience with the elderly.
The Community of Sant Egidio in the Philippines started visiting more than 80 elderly people living in the Misssionary house of St. Therese in Tayuman, Manila. The friendship grows more as the years go by. Truly, the community help us to bring back dignity and life of the old people as our eyes become open to see them and cheer to them " Long Live the Elderly".
