On the 19th and 20th of September, the Poverty and Peacemaking Conference took place in Princeton, organized by Princeton University’s Office of Religious Life and the Community of Sant’Egidio.

The participants came from all over the United States and included students, scholars, government officials, activists, diplomats, religious leaders, professionals, and those concerned with working for a better world. 

The conference was organized in a very innovative way to maximize dialogue between students and all participants. It was comprised of a series of small roundtable discussions, with the speakers giving brief remarks but the majority of the time devoted to a moderated and engaged discussion among the participants.  These roundtables picked up on the questions and themes initiated by the plenary.

At the end of the two day conference, an appeal for peace, drawing from the Antwerp meeting but specified for Princeton, was written and signed by all participants.
