 The opening of humanitarian corridors for refugees will enable the most vulnerable people, women and children, old and sick people, to reach Europe safely, without undertaking the deadly trips through the Mediterranean any more.
The Community of Sant'Egidio, one of the promoters of this humanitarian initiative, wants to step up its efforts to meet the needs of migrants arriving in Italy and to promote their integration.
In this way the project “Together with the new Europeans: from emergency to reception and integration” was born, which foresees:
- First reception: responding to the basic needs of migrants arriving in Sicily and Calabria, and those who are in the areas of Rome and other major Italian cities; gearing up reception centers, providing medical and legal assistance.
- Cultural and job integration: guidance towards economic self-sufficiency, courses of Italian and culture, training of cultural mediators that can actively promote the integration of migrants.
The Community of Sant'Egidio has started a fundraiser to support the project.
