It was inaugurated yesterday in Havana (Cuba) the first seat of the Community of Sant' Egidio in the capital of the country.
At the presence of the cardinal Jaime Ortega Alamino, of the Cuban authorities, among whom the Historiador De la Ciudad, Prof. Eusebio Leal and Caridad Diego, director of the Office for religious affairs of the Cuban communist party, Prof. Andrea Riccardi inaugurated a building in the historical part of Havana with the title "Home of peace and dialogue".

It is a place of human and spiritual growth for the young Cubans, but also of welcome for the elderly poor of the town. In the House it will be available, shortly, also a library.
Prof. Riccardi, during of the ceremony, remembered the words of John Paul II in his visit to the island: "Cuba be open to the world and the world to Cuba".
The Community of Sant'Egidio has been present in Cuba for over 15 years, in various towns of the island, with about a thousand members, that dedicate themselves to the service to the poor and to evangelization.
