It was held in Winnipeg, Canada, from June 21st through 23rd, the G8 of Religions, The Meeting of Religious leaders that, as is now a tradition, comes before the G8 or G20 of political leaders.
A delegation of the Community of Sant'Egidio has accompanied the meeting and taken part in writing the final message that addresses an appeal on three main issues: fight against poverty, care for Earth and investment in peace processes.
"In our faith traditions -says the Message - we strive to listen to the weak and the vulnerable. At the summits in 2010, we expect leaders to put first the well-being of the majority of the world’s population, of future generations and of the Earth itself”. In the Message, the religious leaders committed themselves on behalf of their religious and spiritual communities to do what is in their possibilities for reducing poverty, protect the environment and foster peace, both within their communities and on a world level.
