The Rountable was chaired by Ambassador John L. Hirsch, Senior Advisor, International Peace Institute with the participation of Ambassador António Gumende, Permanent Mission of Mozambique to the UN, Ambassador Cameron R. Hume, former Ambassador in Indonesia and US representative during the Mozambique negotiations and Professor Andrea Bartoli, Representative of the Community of Sant’Egidio. It was sponsored by the Community of Sant’Egidio and the International Peace Institute
After the negotiations, mediated by the Community of Sant’Egidio, in which rival forces came together for a durable peace settlement, Mozambique has been at peace for more than 20 years. The Community has continued to be present in the country with the DREAM project for the treatment of persons with HIV and with many local programs for children and the poor.
