On 30 May, as part of the 55th edition of the Venice Biennale, three video installations of special project "I / O _Io is AnOther", were inaugurated and presented to the public as a collaboration between the Laboratories of Art Community of Sant'Egidio and the Italo-Brazilian artist Cesar Meneghetti.
The event took place on the island of San Servolo, and was attended by over 150 people. The speakers were Cesar Meneghetti, curators Simonetta Lux and Alessandro Zuccari and a delegation of Friends, the disabled of the Community of Sant'Egidio.
The speakers especially emphasized that "I / O is AnOther" brings together art and life, bravely facing weakness, without falling into the clichés of paternalism and ‘welfarism’.
The work is the result of many, it is a 'choral work’ -in which the ego, in comparison with the other, is sublimated into a We in which people with disabilities reveal the dignity of individuals capable of create art. It is therefore a very significant recognition obtained through the exhibition at the Venice Biennale, one of the most prestigious exhibitions of contemporary art at the international level.
In the 4 days of the ‘Vernice’, the delegation of the Community of Sant'Egidio could also visit the Arsenale at the Giardini and the works of various artists in the national pavilions and the Palazzo Enciclopedico, taking interesting ideas for the future work of the Laboratories of Art. |
