Mons. Matteo Zuppi, along with a delegation from the Italian government made up of Deputy Minister of Economic Development Carlo Calenda and Ambassador of Italy in Maputo Roberto Vellano, met Afonso Dhlakama yesterday in Gorongosa, where the President of Renamo retired almost two years ago. During the meeting, Dhlakama expressed the willingness to return to Maputo for the approval of the recent agreements with President Guebuza on the end of hostilities and how to conduct the next elections to be held on 15 October.
The Community of Sant'Egidio welcomes the positive outcome of the meeting, a further step forward in the reconciliation process in Mozambique.
