On last 26 January in Uvira, the Community of Sant'Egidio organised an ecumenical prayer for Christian unity that was attended by the Bishop Sebastien Muyengo and the representatives of the Orthodox Church of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, of the Anglican Communion, of the Lutheran Methodist and Pentecostal Churches.
The meeting was the continuation of the prayer for peace on last 4 January in the area of the ethnic clashes in Muturule, and it was the sign that the Christian churches have made a choice for dialogue in a conflict situation such as the one that the south Kivu is still crossing.
The prayer was held in the Orthodox parish of St. Basil on whose forecourt work is being done to rehabilitate a house that the Community will open to accommodate four elders that, accused of witchcraft, escaped the lynching thanks to our intervention. At the end of the prayer the bishop wanted to visit this house and encouraged the Community to continue on the path traced by Pope Francis: Prayer, the Poor and Peace.
