Thanks to the generous contribution of the Communities of Sant'Egidio of Rome, Naples, Novara and Barcelona, during January and February 2001 64 prisoners have been released from Beira's jail, in Mozambique. At present around 600 inmates are still detained there, minors and adults together, in precarious hygienic condition and with no legal protection.
