ROME - The president of the Community of Sant'Egidio, Marco Impagliazzo, has confirmed in a statement "the Community’s willingness to work for the release of Kevin Scott, the US military man captured five days ago by the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia), as it had been publicly required by the movement, and has welcomed such humanitarian initiative".
Impagliazzo recalls that Sant'Egidio has followed, with concern and commitment, the evolution of the armed conflict situation in Colombia. The Community "expresses the hope that the desirable successful conclusion of the US soldier’s story may strengthen the ongoing talks between the Government of the Republic of Colombia and the FARC, and that the end of the conflict, which has bloodied the Latin American country for almost forty years, may be reached” |
